I wanted to try something different, as my goal is ultimately to use only in-house assets for the various details. I then started developing some textures based on proc-generated patterns/details. I remade stone (but the difference is quite subtle, except previous one was a stock texture based on a picture, new one is entirely proc-genned) and now I used the same technique for wool. Turns out quite nice!
I might yet tweak some values a bit, like normal/POM or fine details, but overall it should look like this:
